Read about Alexi's story in aviation! she is a pilot, and Civilian UH-1 Crew Chief!

How did your aviation journey begin?
My journey in aviation began in October 2019 when I took a young eagles flight with EAA chapter 9032 based out of Smartt Field (KSET) in St. Charles, Missouri. I was a senior in high school, and up until this flight I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I was uninspired, and quite unsure of what my future would hold. This flight opened my eyes to the world of aviation, which I never even considered as being a possibility for me. I knew then that flying was what I wanted to do, It felt right and was the first time I felt a passion for something, I knew then I wanted to learn more and take on the challenge.
Can you outline your current aviation role?
I have a few different roles in aviation currently. I am a private pilot working on my instrument rating. I attend Elite Aviation Flight School in St. Louis, Missouri. I am also a Crew Chief with the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation. We have a fleet of three Vietnam Era helicopters that we maintain and fly in airshows around the United States. In addition to my volunteer work with the AAHF I am currently working on my bachelor’s degree.
What do you think has the most influence on inspiring girls and women to consider aviation careers?
I think what has the biggest influence on inspiring girls are great mentors and motivational figures. In my career I have had amazing mentors that aided me in going above and beyond what I ever thought possible. Stephanie Goetz and Michelle Curran have been two of the biggest inspirational motivators for me. They have conquered so much in the aviation industry and strive to inspire other women to have confidence in themselves to follow their dreams. I look up to them and feel lucky to have found two great mentors to follow.
What role do you think social media plays and how do you use your own social media to inspire your followers?
Social media plays a vital role in the aviation world being able to network and encourage each other in one another’s journey. The aviation community is always willing and wanting to share knowledge to better support each other. I utilize my Instagram account to share my experience in flying and to inspire women like me who do not know aviation is an option.
Have you been inspired by any other female aviators?
Absolutely! Two of the most inspirational figures to me are Stephanie Goetz and Michelle Curran. These two embody what it means to be great aviators and fantastic people!
What are your goals for the future?
My goal for the future is to become a professional pilot weather that is with an airline, cargo carrier or business aviation. I would love to fly for my career and continue to spread my love of aviation. I also plan to continue with the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation and ensure the legacy of the UH-1, AH-1 and OH-58 live on.
